Achieving Work-Life Balance – Prioritizing What Matters

Are you struggling to find a balance between your work life and personal life? Are you overwhelmed with stress, feeling like you’re forced to choose your job over other important aspects of your life? If so, you’re not alone. With many people facing seventy-hour work weeks just to stay ahead, finding a work-life balance has become more crucial than ever.

At Colorado Women’s Center, we specialize in helping women achieve work life balance in their lives. Unfortunately, the reality today is that simply working hard is no longer enough for many. As a result, a significant number of American employees cite their workplace as the single greatest source of stress in their lives. A recent survey found that 4 out of 10 U.S. employees describe their jobs as “extremely” stressful. This level of stress has become a major concern for both employers and employees alike.

Our experience at Colorado Women’s Center shows that failing to achieve a proper work-life balance can take a significant toll on a person’s overall health. In fact, seventy-five to ninety percent of physician visits are related to stress. The connection between mind and body is profound, and stress can manifest in both physiological and psychological symptoms. Physically, stress can lead to cardiovascular disease, sexual health issues, a weakened immune system, frequent headaches, stiff muscles, backaches, or skin rashes. Psychologically, stress can cause poor coping skills, irritability, jumpiness, insecurity, exhaustion, and difficulty concentrating. Additionally, stress often drives unhealthy behaviors such as binge eating, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption.

Women, in particular, report stress related to the conflict between work and family life. Pursuing a position of power within an organization often requires women to consider the impact on other areas of their lives, including hobbies, relationships, family responsibilities, and personal growth. This can feel like a high price to pay just to make a living.

Maintaining work-life balance is essential for living an efficient and effective life. If you’re struggling to find this balance, Colorado Women’s Center can help you prioritize your work and lifestyle so that you can give proper attention to all the areas of your life that matter. You deserve to live a life filled with purpose and meaning, not just stress and obligation.
