Breaking Free from Anxiety – Finding Peace Within

Insights from Our Founder - Kendra Miguez

Do you struggle with anxiety? Are your thoughts consumed by darkness that feels beyond your control? Do you find yourself worrying excessively, even when there’s nothing you can do to change the situation?

At Colorado Women’s Center, our therapists are highly trained in treating anxiety. We believe that mindfulness and somatic awareness are essential tools for leading a satisfying, anxiety-free life. Are you ready to put in the work to tame your mind, so that it no longer holds you prisoner?

Many women suffer from generalized anxiety—a persistent state of low-level anxiety or worry that can sometimes escalate into full-blown panic attacks or phobias. It’s crucial to address anxiety during times of psychological stress before it manifests into physical health issues.

Everyone experiences anxiety occasionally; it’s a natural response that helps keep us safe. Our fight-or-flight mechanism triggers reactions like shaky knees, a rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath in the face of danger. These are normal responses. However, it’s not normal to live in a constant state of fear without any clear reason or cause.

In today’s fast-paced society, many of us find it difficult to relax. Our minds are always racing, keeping us on high alert. At Colorado Women’s Center, we work with women facing anxiety every day. It’s a common issue—so common, in fact, that over 19 million American adults are estimated to experience some form of anxiety disorder. This figure only includes those who report their symptoms. Unfortunately, our culture often views anxiety as a weakness, leading many to feel too embarrassed or ashamed to seek help.

Anxiety comes in many forms, making it difficult to distinguish between what’s “normal” and what might require a professional diagnosis. The key indicator of generalized anxiety disorder is excessive worry about everyday things, both big and small, which interferes with daily functioning most days of the week for at least six months.

Our minds are powerful, and our thoughts can be incredibly convincing. For those suffering from anxiety, it’s important to separate thoughts from reality—to take a step back, breathe deeply, and assess what’s truly happening.

For many, anxiety can be crippling, leading them to dark places created by their own minds. To find freedom, it’s essential to observe the movement of the mind and distinguish between what is real and what is imagined. When we do this, we can begin to see that the world is not as frightening as it seems.

If you are struggling with anxiety, therapy is available at Colorado Women’s Center. Our therapists can help you work through your thoughts, retrain your brain, and regain control of your life. You don’t have to be a hostage to your mind any longer.
